I am known to have a huge mouth and to care, though, so I guess that makes me the person they feel safe asking.
So, here’s a link I found useful on how to be an ally: https://sojo.net/articles/our-white-friends-desiring-be-allies
And here’s a link on what to know and how to hopefully keep yourself safe while attending protests: https://www.teenvogue.com/story/how-to-prepare-protest
“Be a shield, not a weapon. Shields don’t yell about how great they are. They simply, quietly protect. Let go of needing to be acknowledged for the bare minimum of decency.”
“Self-care is necessary. Educate yourself about the issues, don’t wait to be told. Understand that it has ALWAYS been like this, now technology means even YOU can see it.”
I’m sure there’s more. When we hear other things allies should do, we’ll listen and boost.
And remember, nothing is “apolitical.” Being privileged enough to largely ignore the mailed fist is political in and of itself.
